If you plan on doing computer based recording then you will, of course, need a good computer to work with. There are four basic choices: (1) PC desktop (2) PC laptop (3) Mac desktop (4) Mac laptop.
I won't tell you which one to get because I'm not a big believer in the idea that it's all that important whether you go the PC route or the Mac route. If you are more comfortable with one or the other, then stick with it. What's important is that you have enough RAM and harddrive space to be able to work with audio effectively.
Audio software tends to take up a lot of memory and wav files are large and can quickly eat up your hard drive space. Because of this I recommend buying a computer with as much RAM and hard drive space as you can afford.
