Some of the best music software works with Macs better than it does with PCs/Windows. Most notably Pro Tools usually performs better on a Mac than on a PC, in fact as of right now Pro Tools doesn't even work on the latest version of Windows (Vista) although that problem is supposed to be corrected with the next version of Pro Tools. Digital Performer is an example of a Mac only program. As with buying any computer for use in a home recording studio, you'll want to get as much RAM & hard drive space as you can afford.
