While most audio interfaces come with built in mic preamps, these are usually not of particularly high quality and as far as I know none of them are vacuum tube based preamps.
After you get a high quality microphone and a good audio interface, a high quality mic preamp may be the next best thing to get to improve your sound quality. Most of them can be used both as a condenser microphone preamp and as a "direct in" box for your guitars and synthesizers.
If you've never used one before I think you'll be impressed by what a quality preamp can do for the sound of your guitars (both 6 strings and bass guitars.) They can also do wonders in making your vocals sound better (warmer & clearer.)
There are two basic kind of preamps: solid state and tube. This isn't the place to explain the differences but if you're really going for that "analog warmth" sound then you'll want a tube preamp.
