Dynamic microphones are what you need for recording amplifiers (ie: for recording electric guitars) and they are also needed for recording drums. Dynamic microphones are used for live vocals at concerts but for recording vocals (and acoustic instruments) in the studio you should use a condenser mic.
Extremely safe bets when choosing a dynamic microphone are the Shure SM57 & SM 58 models. Both are found in almost every recording studio.
