If you're going to record & mix music with your computer there are a couple of things you are absolutely going to need: An audio interface and recording/mixing software. This is where you can find recording/mixing software for sale online.
This type of software is often referred to as a "Digital Audio Workstation" or a "DAW."
Considering you will be doing all of your recording and mixing with it, your choice of which DAW to buy is probably the most important choice you will be making when putting together your home studio.
Pro Tools is considered to be the "industry standard" but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the best choice for you. I personally think Reaper is a better tool for the home studio. And Sonar could be a great choice if you are a really midi oriented person (on a PC, as it's PC only.)
